in the reading room: thon-ing

It’s that time of year again! Time to sign up for Dewey’s Read-a-Thon. Time to start pulling together a mountain of books taller than myself, and then begging my friends to help me weed it down. Time to start daydreaming unrealistically about the number of pages I can knock out in a 24-hour period. Time to start planning that menu of horribly unhealthy snacks, because that *is* allowed for read-a-thon. Time to start finding myself feeling giddily excited at unexpected moments. And time to start finding myself with tears running down my cheeks a little more often. That’s just the way it is–Dewey’s Read-a-Thon will *always* be a bittersweet experience. Because Dewey will always hold a special place in my heart, and she will always be missed.

So yeah. October 18th. Cannot wait!!!

And in the spirit of “cannot wait”-ing, I’ve decided to give something else a go…

I’ve never before participated in one of these seasonal read-a-thons, but they sound like a great deal of laid-back fun. This is one of those sort of read-a-thons that runs for a week, and you make it what you want. For #FrightFall, they do require participants to read one spooky/creepy/macabre/mystery/Gothic/you-get-the-idea sort of book during that week. My reading has been scant as of late, and I’m hoping this will be the jump-start I need to kick things back into gear.

  1. Ooooh, I so hope that I can readathon with y’all this fall because I have missed it (and reading with you all) SO MUCH. And yes, readathon snacking is the best, isn’t it? 🙂

  2. I got all excited a few weeks ago because I thought I would be a reader for the Thon for the first time ever, but then I remembered I might be spending a good part of my day driving home from a 3 week work trip. Unless the three week trip ends up only being 2 weeks, but I won’t know that until the last minute. Gah! I hate not knowing stuff like that. Maybe I should just plan for April. Or plan on joining just for the snacks. 😀
